Creativity comes at a cost for two playwrights as they fight to theatrically produce the fictional best-seller Letters to Tasmania-- an epistolary romance novel by the infamous (and deceased) Willy Lowski. Amidst the staging of a tumultuous rock-opera adaptation, a classic mentor-versus-mentee feud unfolds between the successful Dean Fresco and his much younger, blindly ambitious protege, Gordon Taylor. Once reliant on each other for inspiration and affection, they now wrestle for creative control and artistic success, unleashing in the process deep primal conflicts, supernatural forces, and wild wombats. Part comedy, part romance, part portrait-of-an-artist-as-a-menace, TASMANIA! explores the pitfalls of ego-driven art and the consequences of creative self-destruction.
