This performance is a double bill featuring Queerísimo by Gabriel “Gabo” Isaac Feldenkrais Bacigalupo and Mechanisms of Distortion by Dagny Rebhan Queerísimo is a variety show that explores untold tales of Queer Latin American history through song, dance, and multimedia theatrical storytelling. In a dreamlike jukebox musical filled with drag and cultural arts, audiences will experience a story book review of Latin American LGBTQ+ historical figures from the 19th to the 21st century. Amidst a turbulent political climate, Queerísimo contextualizes today’s radical love and xenophobia in a theatrical fiesta of everlasting transnational LGBTQ+ identity. Mechanisms of Distortion is an experimental dance piece that examines how our brains and bodies react following trauma. We ask, “What does ‘healing’ really mean?” Our research currently consists of old journals, peer-reviewed neuroscience articles, and the somatic experience of holding trauma. Living after trauma is the most difficult thing I have ever done, and while it is filled with such grief, there is also such love. This show is a homage to it all.
