Of Thee I Sing

New York City Center

May 11 - 14, 2006

The first musical to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize, this 1931 satire follows the presidential campaign of John P. Wintergreen and his vice-presidential candidate Alexander Throttlebottom as they ride to glory on a single issue: Love. George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind's book remains a pertinent attack on brainlessness, cronyism and incompetence in American politics, and the Gershwin score includes such classics as the title song, "Love Is Sweeping the Country" and "Who Cares?".
