On the night of January 16th, financier Bjorn Faulkner falls from his penthouse and Karen Andre, his former secretary, lover, and confidante is accused of murder. But Karen’s trial becomes more than a search for facts. Her love for Bjorn, and her fierce understanding of who he was, may be the very thing that condemns her; or the only thing that can exonerate her. Ruth Stage's production of Night of January 16th reimagines Ayn Rand’s courtroom thriller as a bold, heightened descent into a dark, purgatorial parallel reality, where Karen faces not only judge and jury, but memory, desire, guilt and threatening supernatural forces. In the play’s immersive final turn, the audience becomes the jury, asked to decide not only what happened, but what kind of truth they believe.
