Kick the Spotted Dog is a darkly comedic ensemble drama set during a single shift inside a South Bronx firehouse in 2000. As the company prepares to be interviewed about the recent line-of-duty death of fellow firefighter Malik Evans, questions surrounding his death threaten their shared version of events. Inside the firehouse kitchen, loyalties are tested and longstanding tensions around race, gender, power, and identity surface. Each character must navigate what they know, what they suspect, and what they are willing to protect. At the center is a question of legacy: who gets remembered as a hero, and at what cost? Grounded in firsthand research and infused with sharp humor, the play offers an unflinching look at firehouse culture and a group of flawed individuals struggling to preserve their brotherhood and themselves. This is the inaugural production of Off-Bruckner Theater Company at Tiffany Street Theater at Inspiration Point in Hunts Point, Bronx.
