A simple theory: The greatest pleasure is to disappear, and the most pleasurable way to disappear is to be desired. I Prefer To Die In This Moment is a performance about sex, desire, power, and who gets to have it. A model becomes a French theorist. A photographer walks through a door that wasn’t there before. A businessman disappears with a smile. In three interconnected stories, three people consider their bodies, what their bodies want, and how they might be transformed by each other. Inspired by a 1995 series of Calvin Klein ads so controversial that they sparked an investigation by the Department of Justice, I Prefer To Die In This Moment is a new show from Iris McCloughan about looking, wanting, and the pleasure of disappearing into someone else’s desire.
