By the Way, Meet Vera Stark

The School of Drama invites you to experience By the Way, Meet Vera Stark by Lynn Nottage, directed by Jasminn Johnson, faculty member at Juilliard’s Drama Division. The play offers a sharp and provocative look at race, representation, and the entertainment industry, moving between Hollywood’s past and present. By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, by Lynn Nottage, follows Vera Stark, a Black Hollywood actress and maid in 1930s Los Angeles, who struggles to find meaningful roles in an industry shaped by racism and stereotypes. The play explores Vera’s relationship with a white actress, Gloria Mitchell, and later examines how Vera’s image and legacy are remembered decades after her death.
